About Emerald Bay Beach in Laguna Beach, California

Emerald Bay Beach is a private beach that is only open to residents of the gated community of Emerald Bay in north Laguna Beach, California. The homes in this community on both sides of Pacific Coast Highway have access to this half-mile wide sandy beach.

There is a park centrally located in the cove with grass lawns, a tennis court, a wide flat sandy area with volleyball courts, and picnic tables and fire pits. Even though this is a private beach, it has Orange County lifeguards stationed for ocean safety.

Due to huge cliffs on each end including Emerald Point, it is impossible to walk the shore from adjacent beaches. The nearest public beaches are Crescent Bay Beach to the south and Moro Beach in Crystal Cove State Park to the north.

If you get an invitation to visit Emerald Bay Beach from a resident, consider yourself lucky. It’s too bad that it is private, or it would be on the list of the best beaches in Laguna Beach.

I know that every each beach is “public property” up to the high water mark ,regardless of what any lawyer/resident might say or be under the assumption of. You have the right to be on public property 100%.

Could you please confirm if non-residents are allowed on the beach as long as they remain at or below the mean high tide water line? I’ve been several times as it’s easy to scramble there from North Cresecent Bay. The last time we were passing through on the way to Irvine Cove, an indignant resident yelled at us that we weren’t allowed on private beach and that there was an ongoing lawsuit. He kept saying he was a lawyer.
