About Hooper Beach in Capitola, California

Hooper Beach is the small section of beach west of the fishing pier in Capitola, CA. Hooper’s is known as the dog-friendly beach of Capitola and Aptos even though technically this is part of Capitola Beach and dogs are not allowed period. Local dog owners clean the beach regularly and citations are not issued for dogs that are under control of their owners. There are parking spots on Wharf Road which leads onto the pier and there are spots along Cliff Drive where a long set of stairs gets you down from the bluff. All the parking spaces in the area are metered so expect to pay for parking. The beach is named for Harry Hooper a Hall of Fame baseball player from Capitola that won several championships with the Red Sox in the early 1900’s and worked in the community for many years after that. Take time to walk out on Capitola Wharf if you visit Hooper or Capitola Beach.

We called “Hooper’s Beach”, “North Side Cap in the 80’s. We ‘tola Rats spent many days and dollars in the area back then. Locals lived and worked there in Cap Village back then.

So grateful I was there!
