About Imperial Beach City Beach in Imperial Beach, California
Imperial Beach, California has an impressive beach running the length of its waterfront. Imperial Beach City Beach is generally located between Palm Avenue and Imperial Beach Boulevard in the main part of IB. Imperial Beach Pier is the focal point near the center of this beach. It’s where most folks surfing, sunbathing, and gathering will be.
You’ll want to walk out Imperial Beach Pier at Evergreen Avenue if you are visiting this beach for the first time. It’s a pleasant quarter-mile long walk with views of the area and the surfers near the pier. Tin Fish Restaurant at the end of the pier has tasty seafood dishes and American fare. It’s open every day of the year from 8am to 11pm.
IB City Beach has two parks right on the shore, Dunes Park north of the pier and Portwood Pier Plaza next to the pier. Both have restrooms, picnic tables, palm trees, and lots of lawn. Lifeguards are on duty in stations along the beach during peak hours.
For access to Imperial Beach City Beach look for street parking along Seacoast Drive and the side streets. A parking lot just north of the pier charges a nominal fee if you are lucky enough to get a spot.
South Imperial Beach is a long narrow beach south of Imperial Beach Boulevard. North of Palm Avenue, the beach continues a short distance before petering out in front of the fenced in Silver Strand Naval Training Complex. Silver Strand State Beach is the next beach to the north on the way to Coronado.
