About La Piedra State Beach in Malibu, California

La Piedra Beach is the middle of three beaches in Robert H. Meyer Memorial State Beach, a California state park located in Western Malibu. It’s a narrow south-facing beach that’s best for beach walking, especially at low tide and with shoes for the rocky sections.

La Piedra is flanked by multi-million dollar homes on each side, but they are hardly noticeable from the beach.

Access is from a parking lot off Pacific Coast Highway where a hiking trail and steep steps descend from the bluff to the beach.

La Piedra Beach is a mix of rocks and sand with tide pools that are exposed near the access trail at low tides. The widest and sandiest spot at La Piedra is to the left (east) from the bottom of the steps.

At low tide you can walk in the eastern direction all the way to picturesque El Matador Beach passing a hidden spot known as Playa San Juan Leighton along the way. In the other direction (west) it is not far to El Pescador Beach.

Playa San Juan Leighton is absolutely amazing! When the tide is coming up it feels 100% secluded and it is almost like you have your own private beach! There are beautiful caves that lead into El Matador and its so calm & peaceful. The beach is actually located just South of La Piedra, and it starts when you pass the house. At high tide you may need to climb some rocks to get back (watch for crabs!). I am almost torn leaving this review, because I want to be the only one there next time I visit, but since I found the beach on this website I figured I would share the love. Enjoy!
