Pirates Cove Beach

Pirate’s Cove Beach is the small beach on the west side of the parking lot at Corona Del Mar State Beach in Newport Beach, California. Due to its location inside the Newport Bay entrance channel the water is calm and it’s typically safe to get into the water.

Pirates Cove is below a small city park called Lookout Point Park which has benches that take in the excellent view. That park is located at the corner of Ocean Boulevard and Heliotrope Avenue and street parking spaces are available there. Stairs at that intersection descend to the shelf above the beach.

There is a stairway in the middle of the cliff at the back of the cove that provides the only safe access to Pirates Cove Beach. Below these cliffs are large caves and alcoves for kids to duck into and pretend to be pirates. Because this beach faces west, it’s shaded in the mornings and is best in the afternoon and evenings when you can watch the sun set over Balboa Peninsula.

The popular beach at Corona Del Mar State Beach offers lots of sand and nice facilities a short walk away.
