About Santa Rosa Creek Beach in Cambria, California

Santa Rosa Creek Beach is a brown sand beach in lovely Cambria, California. It’s a convenient place to start a stroll on the Moonstone Beach Boardwalk and an excellent birdwatching spot, too.

The Santa Rosa Creek day-use parking lot entrance can be found at the south end of Moonstone Beach Drive. An accessible boardwalk leads to two observation platforms that look out over the beach and the Santa Rosa Creek Lagoon. Various bird species can be spotted on the beach and at the lagoon.

A stairway leads down to the driftwood-laden beach below. After heavy rains the creek cuts right through the beach and is too deep to get across, but most of the time you can walk south of the creek to Shamel Park, a San Luis Obispo County facility. Beyond that, headlands keeps folks from walking any farther on sand.

The Moonstone Beach Boardwalk begins at the Santa Rosa Creek parking lot and makes a pleasant scenic walk up to Leffingwell Landing and back, a distance of about one mile each way. Stop at anytime along the way and enjoy conveniently placed benches with ocean views.

Santa Rosa Creek Beach is the southernmost part of Hearst San Simeon State Park.
