About Schooner Gulch State Beach in Point Arena, California

Schooner Gulch Beach is the southern beach in Schooner Gulch State Beach State Park. This beach is in a sandy cove where Schooner Gulch Creek pours into the Pacific and drift logs pile up. The northern beach in this state park is known as Bowling Ball Beach for the large round rocks along its shore that are exposed at low tides. There is a parking area on the west side of Highway 1 across from Schooner Gulch Road. Cars must park single-file facing south here. There are two trailheads at the parking area. The southern trailhead goes to Schooner Gulch Beach. From the bluff whales can be spotted passing by during migration season January through May.
