Wall Beach at Vandenberg AFB

Wall Beach is on Vandenberg Air Force Base property north of the Santa Ynez River. Only Vandenberg pass holders and their sponsored guests have access to this beach. Several areas at Wall Beach are restricted March 1st through September 30th to protect Snowy Plover bird nesting locations. If nesting area human violations are exceeded the AFB will close the beach entirely for that season. Check the Vandenerg AFB plover update web page to verify if Wall Beach is open. To get here turn west onto Ocean Avenue from Highway 1 in Lompoc and then turn right onto 13th Street. There is an entrance station checking military ID’s where you can get directions the rest of the way to Wall Beach. In theory you could walk here on the sand from nearby Ocean Beach County Park, but that’s only October through February and if the beach hasn’t been closed for the rest of the bird nesting season, and if you can cross the river mouth.
