About Wedding Rock at Sue-meg State Park in Trinidad, California
Wedding Rock is a major landmark on the rugged headland that makes up Patrick’s Point at Sue-meg State Park. This rock is at the end of a short hike and offers splendid views of the rocky shoreline, which you’ll want to explore.
The parking lot at Wedding Rock serves as a trailhead for several other worthy landmarks in the central portion of the park (Lookout Rock, Ceremonial Rock, Mussel Rocks). The main hike though is to Wedding Rock and the rugged shoreline below it. This trail drops directly down from the parking area. When the trail splits, the left branch climbs up to the overlook on Wedding Rock and the right branch descends to the shore. There is no sand here and the water is foamy white from the crashing waves, so needless to say, don’t expect to go swimming. This bouldery shoreline is a beautiful spot with huge rocks on the shore and out in the surf. Look for rock climbers that might be scaling the cliff face behind the beach.
The top of Wedding Rock is about 80 feet above the ocean and has wonderous views. If it’s breezy, bring a jacket when you leave your car so you can enjoy this exposed spot without freezing.
From the parking lot the Rim Trail heads south to Patrick’s Point Overlook, the summit of Lookout Rock, and another beach access at Rocky Point. Hiking north on the Rim Trail leads to the Rim Trail Overlook and a path down to the shore at Mussel Rocks. There is so much to explore here! Get a map when you pay to enter the park so you you’ll know where to go.
Camping spot exist in three different campground, but they fill up in the summer months so reserve your spot ahead of time (through ReserveCalifornia).
If you seek a sandy beach, Agate Beach at the north end of the park is one of the best in the area.
Since you were wondering, it is not uncommon to get married here!
