About Point Vicente Park and Lighthouse in Rancho Palos Verdes, California

Point Vicente Park is a nice place to visit, but there is no easy beach access from the bluff. The Seascape Trail heads north from the park and follows the bluff’s edge all the way to Golden Cove. The best route down is a very steep trail just north of the Terrace Trail that descends to a huge bouldery slope. The only safe way to access the beaches below the park is by walking on the rocky shoreline from Pelican Cove Beach. This route would take some time and would be safest during a low tide. Only the most adventurous beachcombers should attempt either of these options.

The park has a picturesque lighthouse that is visible from the trail, but is only open for visitation one day per month (2nd Saturday of each month 10am to 3pm, except March when it’s the 1st Saturday). For more info call the Coast Guard at 310-541-0334.

The Point Vicente Interpretive Center is the real highlight of the park. It has exhibits about the Palos Verdes Peninsula, marine life such as the gray whale, and Marineland California, an aquarium and theme park on the nearby Terranea Resort property that closed in 1987. Whale watching is popular from Point Vicente during migration months.
