About China Cove Beach in Newport Beach, California

China Cove is a small tucked away sandy beach on Cove Street at the bottom of Fernleaf Avenue in Newport Beach, CA. The beach is surrounded by houses and the William G. Kerckhoff Marine Laboratory. It has volleyball posts, but you’ll need to bring a net and heed their rules and restricted hours. To find this hidden spot, just park on Ocean Boulevard near Fernleaf Ave in the Newport Beach neighborhood of Corona Del Mar. A stairway descends from that intersection to a street below which goes down to the beaches. There is no public parking below Ocean Blvd. Another small beach is exposed at lower tides where Fernleaf meets Cove Street. China Cove is the site of the old China House which was demolished in the 1980’s. Two other more popular beaches are walking distance from here. Pirate’s Cove is on the calm waters inside the Newport Bay Channel entrance and Corona Del Mar State Beach faces the ocean.
