About Las Cruces Adobe in Goleta, California

Las Cruces Adobe is a unique attraction in Gaviota State Park. If you are visiting Gaviota State Beach or Gaviota Hot Springs, you might want to stop by this historic site. It is known to be haunted by ghosts. The Spanish name Las Cruces comes from crosses that once marked the graves of around 100 Native Americans that are buried at this location after a battle with the Spanish in the early 1800s. When the area was developed in the mid-1800s the crosses were removed and the graves were never marked again. Las Cruces has a dark history that includes saloons, gambling halls, and brothels. Stories of gunfighters and prostitutes that still wander the area. All but one of the buildings has been removed. The remaining crumbling adobe is protected by a roofed shelter and a fence, but that’s ok – you came here to see ghosts!
