About Vista Del Mar Beach in Goleta, California

Vista Del Mar Beach is a narrow sandy beach between San Onofre Beach and the main beach at Gaviota State Park in Santa Barbara County. Technically this beach is on Gaviota park property, but it’s not signed that way. Vista Del Mar Beach is below an old oil tank farm property (tanks are gone now) next to the Gaviota Gas Plant along Highway 101. Because of the tall cliffs this stretch of beach has a remote feel even though the highway isn’t far away.

The small dirt parking area is hard to spot so go slow as you approach it. The parking entrance is on the southern lanes of Highway 101 about a half-mile east of the Mariposa Reina Exit. From your car you will hike down a trail and cross over the railroad tracks before reaching the cliff. The path down the bluff is to the left from where the trail hits the cliff. At low tides you can walk west past a train trestle all the way to Gaviota State Beach or east to San Onofre Beach.
