Crown Cove Beach on San Diego Bay

Crown Cove is an east-facing sandy beach on San Diego Bay in Coronado. This facility is part of Silver Strand State Beach which is located across the highway on the ocean side of Coronado Island. Crown Cove is perfect destination if you want to get out onto the bay as there are rentals of all types.

The state park gets help from Southwestern College (SWC) to operate the Crown Cove Aquatic Center which is located right on the cove. Classes on boating and safety are taught at the center and rentals are available to the general public including kayaks, sailboats, and stand-up paddleboards. Note that kayaks are available in three sizes – single, tandem (two people front to back), and triple. The prices for rentals are fair, but they are only available on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (weather dependent) and the equipment must be reserved (call them at 619-575-6175).

If you want to walk the shore of San Diego Bay, there are accessible trails that begin at Crown Cove. These paths and the beach make it easy to explore the open land north of the cove (you can go south too but there is less beach to explore).

To get to Crown Cove, enter at the Silver Strand State Beach main entrance and pay the required entrance fee ($12-20 depending on demand). For the Crown Cove access you will drive to the northern parking lot next to the campground where a pedestrian underpasses takes you under Highway 75 (Silver Strand Boulevard) and over to Crown Cove.

This is a great place for families with superb facilities and a safe swimming environment. If you are going to visit Silver Strand State Beach, we recommend walking over to Crown Cove to check it out, even if you don’t plan to rent any gear.
