About D Street Beach in Encinitas, California

D Street Beach is one block south of Moonlight State Beach in Encinitas, CA. As the name suggests the beach access is at the west end of D Street.

The street ends at a superb viewpoint looking out over the ocean where surfers ride long rolling waves. To the north the view includes Moonlight State Beach which is just a short walk away.

A tall wooden staircase leads down the bluff to the beach. The beach in this area is a gradual slope which makes it ideal for playing in the shallow waves. A lifeguard tower at D Street might be staffed in the summer months, but if not and you want to swim in the presence of lifeguards, head up to Moonlight where they are on hand all year.

D Street and Moonlight Beach are popular on sunny days so parking and beach space is limited. If the tide isn’t high, you can walk south from here to a secluded area below steep bluffs called Boneyard Beach. This area south of D St. sometimes attracts locals who consider it a clothing-optional zone.

If parking at D Street is unavailable, try the lot at Moonstone which is accessed from C Street.
