About Esplanade Beach in Pacifica, California

Esplanade Beach is below Esplanade Avenue in Pacifica, CA. This narrow beach is below a steep fast-eroding bluff with few access points. The south access to Esplanade Beach is at the end of West Manor Drive where an earthen access ramp can be found. At the north end of this beach in front of the Lands End Apartments complex they call it Esplanade Dog Beach since the city has designated this as an off-leash area for pets. This north end access has become the best and safest way to Esplanade Beach. The city of Pacifica and the apartment land owners are doing all they can to stop the erosion that threatens the buildings above the beach, but they are losing the battle. All the apartment buildings are now condemned. We hope they remove the buildings before the fall onto the beach and create an environmental mess. The beach in this area suffers greatly from winter storms and at high tide the entire beach is wet. Undertows are wicked here so don’t try swimming. Parking can be found on the street along Esplanade Avenue.
