About Estero De San Antonio Beach in Dillon Beach, California

Estero De San Antonio Beach is a large sand bar at the mouth of a stream called Estero De San Antonio in northern Marin County. The only land-based access is from the private housing community of Oceana Marin in the small town of Dillon Beach, CA. This access is clearly signed as a private easement for the Oceana Marin Association members and guests only and that anyone parking near the trailhead must have an OMA parking pass to avoid getting towed. The trail descends through open fields in an active cattle ranch and cows can be seen right at the pedestrian opening in the barbed-wire fence. This remote beach is therefore only accessible by boat or kayak. Experienced kayakers sometimes paddle to the beach then continue up the calm waters of the estero. Many of them make the trip an overnighter and pitch tents on the sand bar. The beach and the estero is protected by the state as Estero de San Antonio State Marine Recreational Management Area. The shortest distance from a kayak launch point is from Dillon Beach, but it is possible to get here from Bodega Bay where you can rent kayaks from Bodega Bay Kayak. Note that it is possible to get to Estero De San Antiono Beach by walking the rocky shoreline at low tide from Dillon Beach, but this is over a mile each way and would take quite a while.
