About Fishermans Beach in Avila Beach, California

Fisherman’s Beach is the last beach you come to along Avila Beach Drive as you drive farther away from the town of Avila Beach. Locals call it Dog Beach because dogs are allowed to roam off leash here.

The day-use car parking spots are along the road shoulder outside of the camping areas. Behind and beside the beach there are self-serve RV camping spaces.

Across the street is a Fishermen’s Memorial with the names of those lost at sea.

Nearby the beach the Port San Luis Boatyard has a coffee shop, brew pub, ice cream shop, and more. Out on the Historic Harford Pier (Port San Luis Pier) you’ll find the Olde Port Inn Restaurant where a few public parking spaces are available. Fishing from the pier is allowed without a license. It’s worth a walk from Fisherman’s Beach to end of the pier even if you just check out the view of Port San Luis Harbor, the surrounding hills, and Avila Beach.
