Kolmer Gulch Beach is a hard to reach sandy beach at the north end of Fort Ross State Historic Park. It’s below a hairpin switchback in Highway 1 where Kolmer Gulch Creek flows down into a small cove. There are a couple pullout parking spots along the highway south of the hairpin that are near the access trail. A trail exists near a telephone pole at one of the pullouts, but it is too steep and overgrown. North of that there is a safe trail that begins next to a small yellow “State Park Property” sign (see our picture). Unfortunately you can no longer get down to the beach from the large parking area on Windermere Point just north of the Kolmer Gulch Cove. If you are up to the task, it is a great place to put your feet in the sand. The Fort Ross Store is just north of Kolmer Beach.
