About Rocky Creek Bridge Beach in Carmel, California

Rocky Creek Beach is below the Rocky Creek Bridge along a steep section of Highway 1 south of Carmel and north of Big Sur. The creek flows down through Las Piedras Canyon and hits the ocean at a small sandy beach. Unfortunately the land below the bridge is currently private property. The road access north of the bridge is clearly signed “Keep Out” so don’t venture down that path. It appears as though people have hiked down to the beach from the parking lot on the north side of the bridge, but it doesn’t look safe to reach the beach. At high tide, most of the beach is wet. Rocky Creek Bridge, like its better-known brother Bixby Bridge to the south, was completed and opened in 1932. The wide sandy beach at Garrapata State Park is nearby and has safe easy access.
