Santa Rosa Island Beaches in Santa Barbara, California
Santa Rosa Island is a large island in the chain of islands that makeup Channel Islands National Park. The interior of the island can be hiked most of spring through fall, but check with the park for actual dates and restrictions. Water Canyon Campground offers tent campers a nice interior camp with restrooms and potable water and access to Water Canyon Beach. Backcountry camping is also available for experienced backpackers. There are other beaches on the island, but some are closed (those at Sandy Point) and others have seasonal closures to protect wildlife (beaches near Skunk Point). Santa Rosa Island is one of only two places where Torrey Pines trees grow – the other place of course is the Torrey Pines area of San Diego. This is a remote island that takes about three hours to reach from the mainland. Do your research on the websites of the national park service and the tour company before planning an overnight trip out here. To get to Santa Rosa Island contact Island Packers Cruises. Trips to Santa Rosa Island depart the Ventura Harbor location April through early November and include a stop to view the Painted Cave on the northwest shore of Santa Cruz Island.
