About Seal Rock Picnic Area in Whitethorn, California

Seal Rock Picnic Area is a wildlife watching spot on the west side of the small town of Shelter Cove. This park is managed by the BLM to provide the public an oceanside park where they can watch harbor seals and sea lions in their natural habitat. During migration seasons of Jan-Feb and April-May you can see California gray whales near shore as well. There is no beach here per se, but visitors can walk around the shoreline directly above the water. Nearby are great beaches for walking in the sand including Black Sands and Little Black Sands Beach. Shelter Cove is a long drive from Highway 101 in Garberville. To get to Seal Rock Picnic Area just drive along Lower Pacific Drive and look for the signed loop road and parking lot.
