About Tolowa Dunes State Park – South Section in Crescent City, California

Tolowa Dunes State Park, north of Crescent City, has two different areas that are separated by Earl Lake Wildlife Area. The south part of Tolowa Dunes SP is accessible via Old Mill Road. To get here, turn west onto Northcrest Drive from Highway 101 in Crescent City, then turn onto Old Mill Road. At the end of this road go left onto Sand Hill Road and you’ll end up at the parking lot. The trail begins at a closed gate. Two different trails head to the beach from here. One is 1.2 miles and the other is 2.5 miles. Beachcombing is great here as the beach is long and remote. This area is popular with birders too. Restrooms and picnic tables can be found at the Lake Earl Wildlife Area building where Sand Hill Road branches off Old Mill Road. You can get more info on the state park at the main park office located at 1111 Second Street in Crescent City. The Northern Section of Tolowa Dunes State Park has another remote beach near the Smith River.
