The Hole (Boca del Canon Beach)

Boca del Canon Beach is better-known as “The Hole” by San Clemente municipal beach located in front of homes built in a depression in the steep sandstone bluffs about half-way between San Clemente Pier and Calafia Park Beach. It’s a popular spot for surfing, sunbathing, and walking on the Coastal Trail.

The Hole is a narrow sandy spot that is backed by large rocks piled next to the active rail tracks. Restrooms are on the beach just north of the access point and volleyball courts are available south at the Lost Winds Beach access.

The beach access is in the middle of the La Ladera housing development on Boca del Canon Street. The best way to find it is to get directions to 399 Boca del Canon. Unfortunately the start of the street is gated to cars. You can still park outside and then walk past the auto gates and down the hill. Before the first oceanfront house and after the last house there are paths that cross over the San Clemente Coastal Trail and the railroad tracks to the beach. The Coastal Trail is great for walking, jogging, or biking.

Another way to get to The Hole is to walk south on the sand from T-Street Beach at the end of Esplanade.
