About Toro Creek Beach (Morro Bay Dog Beach) in Cayucos, California
Toro Creek Beach fills the gap between the north and south sections of Morro Strand State Beach between the cities of Morro Bay and Cayucos, CA. Locals call this mile-long beach Morro Bay Dog Beach because their canines can roam leash-free here.
Toro Creek Beach is a wide sandy beach that can be rocky when winter storms rob it of sand. Highway 1 and a bank of dunes are directly behind the beach. A boot-beaten trail meanders across the top of the dunes with photo opportunities along the way. Morro Rock, at nearly 600 feet tall, is clearly visible to the south, and if you look closely, Cayucos Pier is in the distance to the north. Toro Creek flows under the highway south of the parking areas. This is a good place for birdwatching.
There are ample parking spaces along Highway 1 between Toro Creek Road and the bridge over Toro Creek.

This used to be a great dog beach, and the beach part still is, but now the access is DANGEROUS due to erosion from the early rains. People & dogs have slipped and fallen many times. Regular dog beach goers have tried to string access lines, chip away to make steps or shovel sand to make access less dangerous. Calls to the city/county are to no avail. Chevron sold this property with the express stipulation that it remain a dog beach and maintained as one. Safe beach access should be a part of that!
