About Trinidad Head Beach in Trinidad, California
Trinidad Head Beach, a.k.a. Pier Beach, is on Trinidad Bay below the huge rocky point called Trinidad Head in the town of Trinidad. It’s really two beaches in one with a beach on both sides of a smaller rocky point called Little Head and an adjacent pier in the harbor of Trinidad Bay.
Trinidad Head is a 350 foot tall hill with a hiking trail loop that goes to a granite cross at the summit and the new Trinidad Head Lighthouse at the southern tip. Views of the ocean, the rugged coastline, the bay, and the town make the hike on Trinidad Head well worth it – just watch for poison oak as you explore.
Trinidad State Beach on the ocean side of Trinidad Head is a larger beach, but it doesn’t offer any protection from waves and weather like the beach on the bay.
There is a large parking lot with access to Trinidad Head Beach and the pier at the end of Lighthouse Road (go west on Edwards St to get there). Nearby on Edwards Street you can visit the Trinidad Lighthouse Memorial which was created by using parts from the old Trinidad Lighthouse.
In 2017 President Obama added Trinidad Head to California Coastal National Monument to protect the land from future development.
