Crissy Field – West Bluff Beach

The beach at West Bluff Picnic Area is located at the west end of Crissy Field Park right below Fort Point National Historic Site and very near the Golden Gate Bridge. Crissy Field Park is part of the old decommissioned San Francisco Presidio within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.

Crissy Field is made up of large grass fields, multi-use trails, a large marsh, and a wide popular beach. Crissy Marsh, located between East Beach and West Beach, is a birdwatching lagoon that was restored a few years after the Presidio property was transferred to the National Park Service.

The Golden Gate Promenade, part of the Bay Trail, is a multi-use path that runs through Crissy Field for runners, walkers, and bikers to enjoy. The West Bluffs area is popular with the active set and has a huge climbing gym and a bike shop to complement the trails and sports fields.

From some vantage points you can see the old Fort Point Lighthouse on top of the building at Fort Point National Historic Site directly under the bridge. Torpedo Wharf is an amazing place to view Fort Point and the Golden Gate Bridge and it’s close by West Bluff Picnic Area.

The Warming Hut Park Store and Café is near the beach for coffee, tea, packaged snacks, and souvenirs. East Crissy Field is within walking distance and has a separate beach and parking lot.

To get to West Bluff Beach, drive Old Mason Street west past the main Crissy Field Park entrance all the way to the end where parking spaces are on both sides of the road. The road continues west past the Torpedo Wharf fishing pier to Fort Point under the Golden Gate Bridge.
