A trip to Avalon on Santa Catalina Island from the mainland of California feels like leaving the country on a Mediterranean cruise getaway. The small city on this remote island has many options for hotels and lodging from the Inn on Mt Ada to vacation rentals and bed and breakfasts. There is so much to do here, but it's easy to just stay in town and enjoy the beaches and the shopping. Rentals are available if you want to ride a bike out of town or go snorkeling in the clear waters nearby in Lovers Cove. Getting to Avalon is easy as hopping a one-hour ferry from LA, Long Beach or Dana Point on the Catalina Express.
