About Greyhound Rock Beach & Fishing Access in Davenport, California

Greyhound Rock Coastal Fishing Access is a Santa Cruz County managed beach facility located between Davenport and Pescadero. It’s a picturesque spot with rocks in the surf and offshore, and steep cliffs towering overhead.

The massive rock just offshore from this beach is Greyhound Rock which is part of Greyhound Rock State Marine Conservation Area (SMCA), a marine protection area (MPA). Fishing is popular at this beach as is beachcombing and beach walking. Except at high tide, this beach has a lot of shoreline to explore and the dramatic cliffs add to the epic setting. Surfers can find a couple left hand breaks here when conditions are favorable (S or SW swell).

Beach walkers are free to roam far north and south from where the trail meets the beach behind Greyhound Rock. The north route continues all the way to Waddell Creek Beach at low tide (about 1.5 each way). Keep in mind that high tide can close off your return route in a couple spots so plan your trip accordingly. At low tide, it is possible to climb up onto Greyhound Rock for an excellent view of the shoreline. Below the rock at low tide you’ll see tidepools if you are so interested.

Access to Greyhound Rock Beach requires hiking down a direct, but steep, paved grade from the large parking lot to the beach. You’ll find the parking lot on Highway 1 at the address 1551 Cabrillo Hwy, Davenport, CA 95017.
