About Cove Beach at Ano Nuevo State Reserve in Pescadero, California

Cove Beach, a.k.a. New Years Creek Beach, is a public access beach at the south end of Ano Nuevo State Reserve. There is a large dirt parking area along Highway 1 a little over a half mile south of the main reserve entrance road. From the north end of this lot a wide trail heads toward the beach crossing a scenic old bridge on the way. It’s not much longer to walk to this beach if you park at the visitor center and venture out the Steele Trail, but they charge for parking there. Cove Beach goes north from the creek mouth until the sand runs out at a rock wall. Surfers sometimes will be riding the break in this area despite the higher concentration of sharks in these waters. It’s possible to walk south on the beach from here too. Birds and other wildlife can be spotted on the beach and in the cliffs in this area. In the spring gray whales can be spotted from here swimming through Ano Nuevo Bay.
