About Point Ano Nuevo Beach in Pescadero, California
Ano Nuevo State Reserve has an extensive dunes structure and wide sandy beaches at Point Ano Nuevo. The area around the point is a Northern Elephant Seal breeding ground and has been designated as wildlife protection area. Much of the shoreline is here is closed to the public. However, the beach known as Bight Beach at Point Ano Nuevo is open to the public, but it can only be viewed if you join a docent-led guided walking tour. These three-mile long walks are offered daily from Mid-December through March. Reservations are suggested, spaces are limited, and there is a small fee charged per person. It is suggested to bring a camera, binoculars if you have them, and warm clothes as it can be cold and windy at the point. Visit the state park web page for Ano Nuevo State Reserve for more information. Ano Nuevo Island is visible from the point. It has an old abandoned lighthouse station and is home to many bird species. The state park visitor center has a marine education center in an old dairy farm barn with natural and historical exhibits, a bookstore, a theater, and old farm equipment. Even though the beach at the Point is closed to the public most of the time, there is an excellent sandy beach at Cove Beach where New Years Creek flows to the ocean at the end of the Steele Trail which begins right at the visitor center building.
