Expedia.com asked us to share our favorite beachfront hotels in the San Diego area (tough job, we know). Not only is San Diego one of the most visually stunning cities in California, it’s also chock full of beautiful hotels & resorts. But when deciding where to stay in America’s Finest City, we always recommend finding a place right on the beach! Explore more San Diego hotels on Expedia.com.

San Diego has beachfront hotels on the Oceanfront as well as on Mission Bay. All of which are top notch. But these 10 have the aesthetics, amenities and service to be the best of the best.

Ocean Beach Hotel, Mission Bay

Ocean Beach Hotel is a reasonably priced, family-friendly hotel located in the Ocean Beach neighborhood, or OB, as it’s referred to by locals. The location here is stellar—guests can walk to great dining spots, cafes, shops, and the Ocean Beach Pier. While the building lacks many of the amenities of a luxury hotel, the service is top notch and is managed by a team of helpful people who will ensure you’ll have the relaxing vacation you need.

Amenities include Wi-Fi, free parking, refrigerators and microwaves in the rooms, onsite laundry, direct beach access and bike rentals. They’ll even set you up with a spa treatment at one of the spas in the area.

Loews Coronado Bay Resort, Coronado

It doesn’t get much better than being surrounded by peaceful waters. Loews Coronado Bay Resort is a gated property with views in every direction. This destination resort has everything you can dream of: Posh rooms and suites, three swimming pools, a private marina, a soothing spa, four dining options, and direct access to Silver Strand State Beach. You can even bring your dog with you.

Tower23 Hotel, Pacific Beach

Tower23 Hotel is a gem on the Pacific Beach boardwalk. The minimalist design is no accident—everyone wants you to focus on the beach. Serenity beds, rain showers, 24-hour room service and Wi-Fi all over the hotel await you here… and with a pool like this, you may not want to leave the property.

La Jolla Shores Hotel

This stunning hotel is in a quiet, affluent neighborhood, and it’s the perfect place to go for total relaxation. But if you’d like an active vacation, use the nearby beach as a launch point for kayaking or paddle boarding. Guests can sign up for beach activities right at the front desk. Amenities include Wi-Fi, rooms with private balconies, eco-friendly bath amenities, a pool and fitness center, and a restaurant with ocean view dining.

Bahia Resort Hotel, Mission Bay

Belmont Park and local dining and nightlife are nearby, and amenities include all the comforts of home plus complimentary beach cabanas, a heated swimming pool and The Catamaran Spa. You can even the Bahia Belle Stearnwheeler boat, which takes guests on family hour and cocktail cruises.

Crystal Pier Hotel & Cottages, Pacific Beach

If a stay at the Crystal Pier Hotel isn’t on your bucket list, it really should be. Built in 1930, the Cape Cod-style cottages sit right on the privately owned Crystal Pier overlooking Pacific Beach. Fall asleep to the sound of the waves and enjoy amenities like full kitchenettes, private patios and individual parking, not to mention direct access to one of the best beaches in San Diego.

Cape Rey Carlsbad

Located just a few steps from the beach, Cape Rey, a Hilton resort, is a true treasure. This Carlsbad hotel reflects a hip, laid back Southern California lifestyle, complete with a location across the street from Carlsbad State Beach. The recently renovated pool area includes private cabanas, so you may just want to sit back and relax. But if you must leave the property, you’ll find you’re close to the Carlsbad Premium Outlets and LEGOLAND.

L’Auberge Del Mar

When you enter the gates of the L’Auberge Del Mar you may ask, “Is this even a hotel?” This charming boutique property sits right in the heart of Del Mar but feels like a private coastal estate. All rooms have beach, garden or village views with balconies or patios, in-room coffee service, complimentary newspapers, Wi-Fi, and 42″ flat screen TVs. Community amenities include a fitness center, European-style spa, and even a seasonal beach butler that sets up chairs, umbrellas, towels for guests.

Amenities include WiFi, a swimming pool overlooking the ocean, a concierge desk and on-site massage treatments. There’s also a great fitness center for those who aren’t too relaxed to get in a little cardio.

Hotel del Coronado

Completing our list (and perhaps topping it) is the historic Hotel del Coronado, an iconic resort that has become one of San Diego’s most recognizable places. 11 Presidents and dozens of movie stars have stayed here during the hotel’s 120-year history. The property has every amenity you could dream of, from a state-of-the-art fitness center to ocean view dining. The latest addition, Beach Village, offers kitchens and private terraces as well.
