About SeaWorld San Diego in San Diego, California
SeaWorld San Diego is on the shores of Mission Bay north of Downtown San Diego. The park opened in 1964 and has been thriving ever since. It’s a popular park with thrilling rides and many attractions revolving around marine animals including dolphins and orcas.
The organization has come under extra scrutiny since the documentary movie Blackfish came out in 2013. PETA and other animal rights organizations have always spoken out about the treatment of these animals in captivity. SeaWorld has stated that their killer-whale performances will end after 2016. Visitors will still be able to see the large mammals, but the focus will be viewing them acting in their own natural behavior. The park will still have a strong appeal to San Diego travelers.
The park has a lot to offer for families who want to see these animals up close and enjoy the exciting rides that include Journey to Atlantis which finishes with a freefall and a splash.
Nearby there are many great beaches including Mission Beach which has another small amusement park called Belmont Park.
