Anacapa Island – East Isle in Oxnard, California
Anacapa Island in Ventura County is part of Channel Islands National Park. It has three small islands (East, West and Middle) but access is mainly to East Anacapa Island. There is also a small beach on West Anacapa Island called Frenchys Cove which visitors can opt for. Trails make it easy for visitors to explore East Anacapa Island, but you’ll find little shade and almost no protection from the elements – especially wind. So dress appropriately for exploring East Isle. After hiking up the steep steps from the boat landing you’ll find trails that meander about this tiny island which is about a mile in length. Heading east toward the mainland you’ll find the beautiful Anacapa Island Lighthouse. Heading west leads to an overlook above Cathedral Cove and eventually ends at Inspiration Point. In between these endpoints is a flat area where picturesque old Coast Guard buildings rest. Restrooms, picnic tables, and informational displays can be found here. The biggest activities at East Isle are sea kayaking, scuba diving, and hiking. An underwater web cam gives a live shot of sea life at Anacapa Island. Sea kayakers can paddle to the east end of the isle to see the 40-foot high Arch Rock. The Channel Islands National Park office is in Ventura. Most of the boat departures to Anacapa Island are from the Island Packers Cruise Terminal at Channel Islands Harbor in Oxnard.
