About Carmel Meadows Beach in Carmel, California

Carmel Meadows Beach is the nickname for the portion of Carmel River State Beach that is adjacent to the Carmel Meadows housing community. It’s a wide sandy west-facing beach with rocky areas at each end. This beach tends to be less crowded than nearby Monastery Beach and the main Carmel River Beach.

A wide trail follows the base of the bluff in both directions. North leads to the state beach at the mouth of the river and south leads to Monastery Beach. Above this trail huge rounded and lichen-covered rocks rise up out of the tightly vegetated bluff. It’s a stunning sight that feels more at home in Ireland.

There are street parking spots in Carmel Meadows along Cuesta Way and Ribera Road. A few spots are provided for the public at the trailhead where Ribera Road ends at Cuesta. From this access a trail leads across the bluff to several viewpoints and then gradually goes down to the beach.

Don’t swim at any of the beaches on this cove as the undertow and rip currents are extremely dangerous.
