About Cloisters Park in Morro Bay, California

Cloisters Community Park is the perfect starting point for a pleasant walk that ends at the beach north of Morro Bay. It’s a popular place for families as the park has a playground for kids, picnic tables, and a platform with views into adjacent wetlands.

Cloisters Park doesn’t have a path straight to the beach because of dunes and wetlands that provide habitat for birds and other animals. Instead it has a paved path called the Morro Strand Trail that goes around the protected areas with access to the beach north and south of it. Starting from Cloisters Park the walk to the beach is the same distance in both directions, about a half-mile. Both paths are either pavement or boardwalk most of the way, but the last part is deep sand cutting through the dunes. The beach near Cloisters Park is part of Morro Strand State Beach and state park rules apply (e.g. no dogs allowed on the beach or in the dunes).

The biggest limitation to Cloisters Park as a beach access is that the parking lot only has room for 27 cars. If you can get a parking spot and don’t mind walking a half mile to the beach, this is a great alternative to the better-known beach accesses.
