El Segundo Beach

El Segundo, California only has a small area of waterfront between its neighbors Manhattan Beach to the south and Playa Del Rey to the north. The entire El Segundo Beach is in front of a huge oil refinery. Tall smoke stacks tower over the area, but high fences and walls help to block views of the rest of the refinery especially if you walk south on the beach from the parking lot.

If you walk farther south there is a rock jetty and smoke stacks where the beach narrows as it approaches El Porto Beach, the northern beach of Manhattan Beach. This beach tends to be less busy than the better-known beaches north and south of here.

The parking lot for El Segundo Beach has an entrance where West Grand Avenue meets Vista Del Mar. LA County maintains this lot for the South Beach in Dockweiler State Beach which begins north of the lot. El Segundo Beach is wide near the parking area and has volleyball courts right there. A paved bike path goes both directions behind the beach for walking, biking, skating, and running.
