Boat Canyon Beach at Fishermans Cove

Fisherman’s Cove Beach is a small south-facing beach tucked away in Laguna Beach, California. The signage at the entrance to this beach is clearly signed Fisherman’s Cove, but locals also call it Boat Canyon Beach.

The stairway entrance is on the north side of the Diver’s Cove Condominiums on Cliff Drive just north of Heisler Park. This small sandy cove has a steep drop-off near the shore and a sharp rocky bottom in many places.

Scuba divers enter the cove at this beach, but it’s not the safest place to swim without fins and a wetsuit, especially if the lifeguards aren’t present. Checking in with them before swimming is a good idea on any day.

This beach is hidden, so it can be a real gem when the tide is out and other beaches in the area are busy. During high tide a lot of Boat Canyon Beach will be wet and there won’t be as much room for sunbathing.

At the north end of the beach there’s a flat rock point which the lifeguards say to avoid when swells are present. In the rock wall below the condo building on the south side there is a sea cave to duck into.

For parking look for spaces along Cliff Drive nearby the beach entrance. Heisler Park isn’t far away if you are looking for restrooms and other amenities.
