Picnic Beach at Heisler Park

Picnic Beach is the northern beach of Heisler Park in Laguna Beach, CA. The park above the beach offers grass areas to spread out on and many picnic tables as the name suggests. Paved paths follow the bluff from Main Beach for over a half a mile of walking with scenic views. The color-infused landscaping and unique public art projects in Heisler Park make this more than your average “walk in the park”.

Scuba diving is popular at Picnic Beach and in the adjacent cove to the north called Diver’s Cove. Tidepooling is also popular here when tide pools are exposed at low tide at the south end below the Laguna Beach Lawn Bowling Club.

Picnic Beach is wider and has more sand than Rockpile Beach which can be found in the cove just around the corner toward Laguna Beach Main Beach. Rockpile is a better spot for tidepooling, birdwatching and surfing however. Anywhere along the path in Heisler Park is excellent for watching sunsets and whale watching during their migration (best mid-Dec through April).

Access to Picnic Beach is via a ramp centrally located in the park near Myrtle Street. Metered angle parking and street spots are available all along Cliff Drive next to Heisler Park.

To get there, turn onto Myrtle Street from North Coast Highway (Hwy 1) and drive one block toward the ocean to Cliff Drive.
