About Gamboa Point Beach in Big Sur, California

Gamboa Point Beach is a stunning sandy beach along the Big Sur coast that is unfortunately blocked by private property.

Gamboa Beach sits in a cove far below Highway 1 north of Lucia Lodge. Several palm trees line the grassy landing at the back of the beach and large rocks are in the surf. Directly above the beach there are two pull-out parking areas along the highway north and south of the gated access road. The gate has several “No Trespassing” and “Private Property” signs and isn’t easy to climb over.

Another parking area is south of the beach above Gamboa Point itself. This lot provides an excellent view of the beach especially if you hike out on the point (steep trail be careful). To find this overlook, drive about two miles south of the Big Creek Bridge on Highway 1 or drive about 3.5 miles north from Lucia Lodge.

Since the beach is off-limits, this area is merely a place to stop and take photos and ponder the idea of such a place being closed to the general public.

Limekiln State Park is a few miles south of here and they have a day-use parking area, hiking trails, and a cool little beach.
