About Lechuza Beach in Malibu, California

Lechuza Beach is a little-known public beach in Malibu, CA. It’s located below homes at the northern end of Broad Beach Road. The best public access is at the center of the beach with an entrance on Broad Beach Road across from a short cul-de-sac called Bunnie Lane. From this entrance there is a short walk through a tree-covered corridor then down a few flights of stairs to the sandy beach. There are several large rocks in the surf in this area making this a photogenic spot. Other public access routes to Lechuza Beach can be found through gates at East Sea Level Drive and West Sea Level Drive. The California Coastal Commission makes it clear that the signs that read “Right to pass by permission and subject to control by owner” are false and can be ignored. Parking is available on Broad Beach Road near all three of these entrances. Be sure to not block any driveways.

No restrooms, no lifeguards, very little and inconvenient parking. Entrances are long walks and the Bunnie lane entrance is a dangerous hike down. Much of the beach, is in fact, private tho there is a public beach area. Rangers ticket for drinking, smoking and dogs. Sheriff has removed trespassers on the private beach area. In addition to the sketchy swimming area due to submerged rocks the beach is just not worth it ! There are , literally dozens of more public friendly beaches. This one, I’d pass

Over rated. Narrow sand- non existent at hi tide. Do not swim- rocks and underwater debris. Toooo crowded and trash. Entry is at the stairs on broad beach. If you use the sea level gate be aware that the beach alone sea level. Drive is NOT PUBLIC. SECURITY GUARDS WILL ASK YOU TOO LEAVE. MUCH BETTER BEACH OPTIONS AT Zuma, or Leo Carrillo
