About Point Arena Lighthouse in Point Arena, California
Point Arena Lighthouse is located on rocky Point Arena where the beaches are inaccessible. The lighthouse offers tours daily including a hike up the stairs to the top. This is one of the tallest lighthouses on the California Coast and the only tall one (115 feet) you can climb up inside. At the top you are allowed to walk on the balcony for 360 degree stunning views. On the property is a museum, gift shop, and even vacation rental accommodations in the lighthouse keepers quarters. Although there are no beaches to explore, this is a great spot for whale-watching during their migration season.
To get there, follow Highway 1 north from the town of Point Arena and turn west onto Lighthouse Road at the sign for Lighthouse Pointe Resort. Follow this road to the end and follow signs for parking. A non-profit organization operates the facility and asks for donations in addition to a small fee for entrance. See their website for hours of operation. The lighthouse property is surrounded by the Stornetta Public Lands which are managed by the BLM. Nearby to the north is spectacular Manchester State Beach so you can hit a sandy beach after touring the lighthouse.
