About Upton Beach in Stinson Beach, California

Upton Beach is a Marin County Park located at the transition between two beaches, Stinson Beach and Seadrift Beach. This is a less-known beach access, but a good one. The beach is public in both directions from here and signage at the beach makes it clear. There are no facilities at this location, but it’s still a prime spot for picnics on the sand. Surfers use Upton Beach when surfs up and hang-gliders land here after taking off from Mount Tamalpais.

Getting there is easy. From Highway 1 in Stinson Beach turn onto Calle Del Arroyo and continue to the end at the Seadrift Community gated entrance. Just before Seadrift is a private gated road signed Van Praag. Walk through a public pedestrian entrance next to this gate and continue down this short road to Upton Beach. Look for the small parking lot across Calle Del Arroyo next to a Marin County Open Space Preserve.

Note that this is a dog friendly beach but be sure to grab a poo bag at the entrance and watch your pooch closely. If you bring a dog it should be on leash.
