Sycamore Cove Beach

Sycamore Cove Beach is a day-use area in Point Mugu State Park located in southern Ventura County and not far from western Malibu. The beach in Sycamore Cove is excellent, but the biggest draw to this spot is probably the adjacent campground with an extensive hiking trail network.

Trailheads for various trails can be found along Sycamore Canyon Road which starts across Pacific Coast Highway (Hwy 1) from the beach parking area. The most popular trails in Point Mugu State Park are the Grotto Trail (easy) and the Mugu Peak Trail (moderate). The Backbone Trail also begins here and is the gateway into the Boney Mountain State Wilderness Area at the north end of the Santa Monica Mountains. Stop into the Sycamore Nature Center for more information on where you can explore in the hills above the beach.

Sycamore Cove Beach is a southwest-facing sandy cove that Pacific Coast Highway wraps around. It has lifeguards, picnic tables, barbecues, fire pits, and restrooms. Across PCH is the campground, the nature center, and maps of the hiking areas. Spots in the campground can be reserved through ReserveCalifornia.com. These camping spaces are popular so book way in advance if possible.

The Sycamore Cove parking lot is open from 8am to sunset every day.
