About Big Fisherman’s Cove on Catalina Island in Avalon, California

Big Fisherman’s Cove is at the eastern side of Isthmus Cove on Santa Catalina Island. This cove is privately operated by the Philip K. Wrigley Marine Science Center of the University of Southern California (USC).

The beach, pier, campus, and harbor are off-limits to the public. Boat anchoring is allowed in emergencies as this is one of the safest spots during rough storms.

From the campground at Two Harbors it is just a short walk or bike ride along the dirt road to a point with a nice view over Big Fisherman’s Cove.

If you launch a kayak from Two Harbors Beach it is a scenic paddling route to Big Fisherman’s Cove with a rocky shoreline and sea caves along the way. Bird Rock just offshore is also a kayaking destination but don’t land your craft there.
