Big Rock Beach in Malibu, California
Big Rock Beach is a narrow rocky beach in Malibu that is under water during higher tides. It is named for the big rock just offshore at the point which often has birds perched on top. Other rocks nearby might have seals sunning themselves above the waterline. Since all California beaches are public below the mean high tide level, Big Rock Beach is always public because the mean high tide level is at the back of the beach. At lower tides the sandy shore is exposed, but this beach is right in front of a long stretch of waterfront homes. If that doesn’t bother you, this is a nice beach walk There is a public gate with access to Big Rock Beach at the address 20000 Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu. Unfortunately, there is little public parking at this address. If you park across PCH, be careful crossing the street. There is another public gate just east of the Moonshadows Restaurant at 20356 PCH, but the beach here is very rocky and again only accessible at lower tides anyway.
