Fiesta Island Beaches on Mission Bay

Fiesta Island on San Diego’s Mission Bay has a continuous beach around its perimeter. You can drive right onto the island, which is actually a peninsula, and just follow the one-way loop road and park where there’s space. In most places you can drive right onto the beach and park right next to your beach blankets (be careful not to get stuck).

Jet-ski and other PWC owners use the beaches when launching and kiteboarders commonly take flight from the Fiesta Island shoreline too. If you plan to go boating, there are a whole host of rules you’ll need to know about so consult signage as you enter the island.

This is a popular spot for events and tournaments especially for fun runs, charity walks, triathlons, and bicycle rides. So if you see some commotion, it’s possible there’s an organized event going on.

Dog owners love Fiesta Island as their pooches can roam free in the fenced off-leash area. The beaches of the island are open to pets too as long as they are on a leash.

If you like bonfires, pack a bundle of clean fire wood and some fire starter for your trip. The city provides concrete fire rings on the beaches, just don’t build a raging fire or you might have a park ranger stopping by. Note that alcohol, glass containers, smoking and loud music are prohibited so you should have a mellow evening by the fire light.

Camping and overnight parking is not allowed on Fiesta Island so plan to drive off the island at the end of the evening. As you enter the island, look for the posted park hours (typically 4am to 10pm).

The city-operated Fiesta Island Youth Camp and Aquatic Center is located on Enchanted Cove on the east side of the island. It’s open to youth groups for water-based recreation and camping (reservations required).
