Gold Bluffs Beach

Gold Bluffs Beach in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park is a remote beach in northern Humboldt County. This is a long sandy beach that is great for walking, beachcombing and birdwatching. The California Coastal Trail route follows the sandy shore for the entire length of Gold Bluffs Beach Road. The unpaved road that leads here is long, twisty, and narrow so large RV’s and trailers are prohibited. From Highway 101 north of Orick turn west onto Davison Road and continue about four miles on Gold Bluffs Beach Road to the park entrance station near the ocean. As you head north along the shoreline there are many pullout parking spots next to the road for beach access. A little farther north is the Gold Bluffs Campground in the dunes just off the beach. Miner’s Ridge Trail begins near Gold Bluffs Campground for hiking the inland areas of the park that include groves of old-growth redwood trees. At the end of the Beach Road you’ll find Fern Canyon with a another unique hike that has fern-covered walls towering over the trail. Whatever you wind up doing here, it’s worth the drive to explore the Gold Bluffs area of the state park.
