Gualala River Beach

The Gualala River has long wide pebbly beaches along it’s shoreline. One such public access beach is known as Mill Bend and is located just north of the Gualala River Bridge on Highway 1. Park on the east side of the highway and find the dirt road path that is on the west side. If the gate is closed just step over it and walk the road to the beach.

In 2021 Redwood Coast Land Conservancy (RCLC) completed the purchase of lands on both sides of the Gualala River Estuary. The land was known as the historic Mill Bend property

This is a popular kayaking put-in spot for access to the calm waters of the river estuary. Kayaks can be rented right at the beach from Adventure Rents.

Gualala River Redwood Park is nearby for camping and river access. The Gualala area is in the local “Banana Belt” that gets more sunny days per year than the surrounding Sonoma and Mendocino coast which receives more rain and fog.

A trail called the Gualala Bluff Trail meanders along the bluff in town with excellent views out over the river mouth for watching birds, river otters, and even whales off-shore. A new section of the California Coastal Trail is expected to be added in this new Mill Bend land acquisition connecting Gualala Bluff to Sea Ranch.
