About Santa Maria Beach in Point Reyes Station, California

Santa Maria Beach is a remote beach on Drakes Bay in Point Reyes National Seashore. The beach lies below a wilderness tent camping area up on the bluff called Coast Camp. Santa Maria Creek flows down a lush green valley and hits the beach at this same spot.

You can reach Santa Maria Beach by walking south along the shore from Limantour Beach for a little over one mile or by hiking or mountain biking the Coast Trail for nearly 3 miles from the Point Reyes Hostel. Getting to Santa Maria Beach by trail and camping overnight is really the way to go. If you’d rather stay at the hostel, then book your stay well ahead of time.

If you you are here at low tide, walk south on the beach to Sculptured Beach where you’ll find two rock arches and some of the best tide pools in Northern California.
